For couples planning something smaller, more personal, and considerably less predictable than a standard hotel ballroom, Waterman House offers an intimate wedding venue in the heart of Belfast's Cathedral Quarter.
Our event spaces are already a much-loved backdrop for celebrations of every kind, from private dinners to milestone birthdays, but they're every bit as suited to a small wedding, an intimate ceremony, or a relaxed wedding breakfast for close family and friends. Waterman occupies a restored Grade B listed building on Hill Street with a genuinely unusual history — a former wine and spirits trader, and later the Bushmills Head Office and bonded warehouse — and that character comes through in exposed brick, original architectural features, and cobbled surroundings you won't find replicated in a purpose-built hotel function suite.
Across our three connected buildings and two floors, we have a choice of rooms suited to smaller wedding parties, so your day feels curated rather than lost in a space built for hundreds. The food is where Waterman really sets itself apart from a typical wedding venue. Catering comes from the same kitchen behind Waterman Bistro, awarded a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide for Great Britain & Ireland under chef Niall McKenna, and built around Northern Ireland's own produce — our bread, pasta, and ice cream are made on-site. For couples who care as much about the meal as the ceremony, that's the difference between a wedding menu that's simply serviceable and one your guests are still talking about at Christmas.
We can also offer something few wedding venues can: our purpose-built cookery school, which doubles beautifully as a setting for a rehearsal dinner, an engagement celebration, or a genuinely different hen or stag activity in the lead-up to the big day, all under the same roof and the same kitchen team.
Because Waterman is a working bistro, cookery school, and events venue rather than a dedicated wedding hall, every booking is treated individually — we'll work with you directly on room choice, layout, timings, and menu, rather than pushing you through a fixed wedding package.
