About Waterman House

Waterman House occupies a period building on Hill Street in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter. It brings together three connected businesses under one roof: Waterman Bistro, the Waterman House Cookery School, and a set of private event spaces.

The cookery school has operated since 2011 and is one of Northern Ireland’s established cookery schools, running day and evening classes for all abilities. Waterman Bistro opened in June 2022 and holds a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand — the guide’s recognition of exceptional cooking at moderate prices — for its no-choice set menu.

Head Chef Aaron McNeice has worked with Niall McKenna since 2014 and was the company’s first apprentice; his training directly inspired the group-wide apprenticeship programme that now runs across both sites.

Waterman Bistro

The bistro serves a no-choice set menu of unfussy European cooking, with Italy a particular influence — house-made pasta, arancini, gnocchi and burrata alongside cured pork and Northern Irish staples of bread and butter. The daily ingredient list is local, drawn from artisan producers and farmers. The menu is paired with a short wine list and a reserve bin-end list, alongside a monthly changing selection of local gin and beer.

Waterman House Cookery School

Operating since 2011, the cookery school runs interactive, hands-on classes for all ages and abilities. Subjects range from everyday cooking through to curries from around the world, sushi, and cocktail classes. Private classes, kitchen hire and gift vouchers are available, and the published class calendar can be booked online.
