About Waterman Cookery School

You only need to bring yourself and a smile to enjoy the experience

Niall opened James St Cookery School in 2011 and later created and moved to a purpose-built, state of the art, cookery school at Waterman. Here at Waterman Cookery School we have a unique space for up to 18 guests to cook simultaneously under the expert tuition of our chefs.

The Cookery School provides cooking and dining facilities along one large table accommodating 18 guests and can be used as a chef's table.

Our cookery school offers a range of day, evening classes for all ages and abilities. We aim to celebrate great cooking skills at all levels, demystifying and engaging the class to learn new skills that will enable you to make delicious dishes that can be prepared quickly or in advance to be enjoyed with family and friends at home.

Our classes are informal and relaxed, but well-structured and feature a mix of demonstration and hands-on cooking. We run our kitchen with you in mind, we remove the jargon and ensure equipment being used can be found in most homes. At the end of most classes, you will sit down together to enjoy the food that has been cooked along with a glass of wine, coffee or tea.

Waterman Cookery School is set in the heart of Belfast’s buzzing Cathedral Quarter and is the perfect location for your next corporate event, celebration, or private party.

Clare McCann manages the cookery school aswell as taking classes alongside our resident french tutor Marion Lancial and Waterman Executive Head Chef, Cathal Duncan.

A great experience / night out.
We have attended two classes so far .. steak night & pizza in an ooni. The setting is professional but not intimidating and is actually entertaining & funny at times. Very friendly greeting on arrival.
Clare was present on both courses we attended. She was very helpful, very friendly & very knowledgeable … plenty of advice for any questions asked throughout the classes.
We left both classes extremely satisfied, well fed & better educated for home cooking.
With so many classes on offer, we will be back again… just have to decide which one to take next.

My sister and I attended the Indian curry Cookery night and thoroughly enjoyed it! Niall McKenna took the class and cookery school manager Clare McCann was on hand to assist! We had good craic with other attendees and the curry was brilliant. A nice mix of cooking ourselves as well as demos! And tips from Niall and Clare. Niall also discussed things he does/doesn’t do in his kitchens which was interesting to hear. Overall a fab evening and will be back!
